Membership Classifications
Individual Memberships
- Individual members shall be Geologists, Geophysicists, Engineers and Land Persons who have paid the membership deposit in full or have worked for the initiation fee.
- Individual memberships will have full voting rights and privileges of the library. Individual memberships are not transferable.
- Dues for individual members shall be set by the Board of Directors. Dues may be offset by volunteer work at the library.
- A library card shall be issued to each individual member and it shall identify that person for the purpose of using the library.
- Each individual member may request in writing one (1) associate library card for a designated person.
- Members may not bring non-members to the library for the express purpose of accessing information.
Company Memberships
- Company memberships are issued to companies who are actively engaged in the energy industry. They may designate two (2) or more Geologists, Geophysicists, Engineers or Land Persons of the company as company members. A member company shall pay the equivalent of (2) individual member deposits to join the library. A company may add additional memberships by paying one (1) member deposit for each additional Geologist, Geophysicist, Engineer, or Land Person.
- Company memberships may be transferred from one of the above listed professionals to another by notification to the library in writing. A company member shall have all rights and privileges as an individual member.
- Company monthly dues shall be the equivalent to the dies paid by an individual member times the number of members selected by the company, but in no case less than two (2).
- The Member company shall not receive a library card, but each employee designated for company membership shall be issued a library card and it shall identify that person for the purpose of using the library.
- The member company may request in writing the issuance of associate cards to designated employees. A member company may have as many associate cards as designated company members.
Emeritus Memberships
- Emeritus memberships may be awarded by the Board of Directors to members who have given extraordinary support and help to the Midland Energy Library.
- Emeritus Members shall not be required to pay dues and shall have all rights of individual members except the right to have an associate card.
Associate Cards
- Associate cards are intended primarily for use of persons designated and employed by individual members and member companies. Associate cards may also be issued to family members. Associate card requests are subject to approval of the Associate Card Committee. Members should not request associate cards for their consultants, occasional partners or friends.
- Individual members and member companies must apply in writing to obtain an associate card. Each associate card issued must be approved by the associate card committee who will investigate the status of each person for whom an associate card is requested. A charge of $10.00 will be made for issuance of each associate card. The sponsoring member or company is responsible for any and all use of the card.
- No deposit shall be made for an associate card but a monthly charge shall be made as determined by the Board of Directors.
- The associate shall use an associate card so that any activity at the library may be properly identified and charged to the sponsoring member.
Inactive Members
- Inactive status shall be granted for no less than six (6) months to member companies and individual members. They shall request such status in writing and return their member and associate cards. All dues and charges must be paid before inactive status is granted. Such status will be for a maximum of one year subject to review.
- Inactive members shall not be required to pay dues and shall have no voting rights.
- Inactive status will not be extended to associate card holders. Card is to be returned to library.
- Inactive members may reactivate by submitting a written request.
- Inactive members who choose to reactivate before the sixth month may do so by remitting a $25.00 reactivation fee.
Dues
- Dues are set by the Board of Directors and are subject to change. Dues of individual members shall be $110.00 per month. Dues for associate cards shall be $25.00 per month. Dues for companies shall be $220.00 per month.
- Volunteer work credits shall be at the rate of $5.00 per hour worked.
- Funds and work credits received will be accounted for in the following order:
- All deposits shall be credited by cash funds only.
- All charge balances shall be credited by cash funds only.
- All dues balances shall be credited by the remaining funds and/or work credits.
- Books will be closed on the last working day of the month and payments received after that date shall be credited to the next months account balances.
- The deposit for individuals joining the library shall be $100.00. Providing all dues and charges are paid, the deposit is refundable (at termination of membership or inactive status) if the membership is retained for six (6) months or longer.
- The deposit for company memberships shall be $200.00 for a minimum of two (2) designated members and at the rate of $100.00 for each additional designated member. Providing all dues and charges are paid, the deposit is refundable (at termination of membership or inactive status) if the membership is retained for six (6) months or longer.
Research and education
- Students engaged in non-profit, scientific research and education, leading to a college or university degree, shall have free access to the data of Midland Energy Library, provided that such students present written authorization from their professors, including an outline of their proposed study and anticipated completion date.
- Professors engaged in research who plan to utilize MEL data, must submit a basic plan to a MEL Research and Education Committee for approval prior to undertaking the study. Intent is not to limit the scope of research, but to determine its non-profit nature.
- Professors or students engaged in any non-profit study utilizing library data must provide at least one copy of the completed study to MEL in a timely fashion. "Timely Fashion" shall be interpreted to mean within one month of its completion, unless extenuating circumstances, acceptable to MEL, dictate otherwise. Under no condition shall such circumstances extend beyond a six-month period. Such persons shall pay their own reproduction costs and be held accountable for lost or destroyed data.
Data check out
- A member and his or her associate may checkout a maximum of fifty (50) logs in any work day. A member and his or her associate may have no more than 250 logs in their possession at any one time.
- Electric logs may be checked out for a period of four (4) weeks. The check out period may be extended by request for one (1) additional week.
- A fine of fifteen cents ($0.15) per log per day will be levied against any member of his or her associate holding logs past the expiration date.
- Any logs held by a member of 30 days past an expiration date will be charged to member's account at the replacement cost of hard copy logs.
- A member and his or her associate may have a maximum of eighty (80) log microfiche checked out at any one time. Log microfiche shall be checked out for no more than two (2) working days and may be renewed for two (2) additional working days upon request.
- Members and their associates holding log microfiche past an expiration date will be charged a fine of fifteen cents ($0.15) per fiche per day. Lost log microfiche will be charged to a member's account at hard copy replacement costs.
