About Midland Energy Library

Midland Energy Library is a non-profit library established in 1984-85 to house and preserve scientific petroleum data for present and future researchers and explorationists in the oil and gas industry. Over 200 companies and individuals supported the project with the purchase of library memberships, and foundation grants were received for the purchase of equipment. Since the library opening in May, 1986, the library data base has strongly grown with a continuing stream of industry contributions.

Early in 2000, the library moved into its new home at 223 W. Wall Street, on the Second and Third Floors of the Midland Tower Building. Principal data resources are large and small scale electric logs, sample logs, mud logs, core analyses, drill stem test reports, log microfiche files, scout reports and completion cards, oil and gas production data on computer, microfiche and catalogue report format, and current drill activity reports and map postings for areas of the Permian Basin in New Mexico and West Texas, with coverage onto the Eastern Shelf.
Membership dues support periodic data reporting subscription services as well as many of the operational costs of the library. The data collection continually undergoes growth and improving organization and documentation through the combined efforts of library staff, volunteers, and industry donations. Making these data useable to the members is a primary function of the library staff. Individualized research projects may also be undertaken as a Geo-Tech service to library members.
The library staff hope to be able to expand their communication with the MEL membership and community through more thorough use of this website and E-mail resources. Please visit this site often, and let us know how we may improve this function.

As well, the MEL staff wish to invite you to take a personal tour of the library and see for yourself the impressive quality and quantity of petroleum industry data that the library maintains.
